How to remove a stuck pipe or fitting.
These can be hard to get out if you do it wrong.
This method will work on most if not all stuck pipes. The pipe shown in the pic is actually a broken brass pipe stuck in a steel fitting.
Using a pipe wrench on a soft metel pipe doesn't always work well because all it does is crush the pipe and make it oblong which causes it to get even more stuck.
Instead, gently tap a tapered punch into the pipe. Dont drive it in hard enough that it puts pressure where the fitting is. You just want the pipe snug to the punch where the pipe wrench is going to be. Then use a pipe wrench to turn the pipe.
The punch inside keeps the pipe from crushing and spreads the force from the pipe wrench throughout the entire pipe so it will turn.
