How to put the shifter boot on a Ford N model tractor, and many others
This boot fits so tight that you probably think you have the wrong boot, or maybe you need special tools, or it doesn't go all the way on.
Actually, you probably do have the right boot and, done correctly it's super easy to put on with no tools at all.
All you need is a cup of water and a microwave.
Be careful not to burn your fingers as you will be handling very hot things.
Step 1) Turn the boot inside out, and place it in the cup of water.
Step 2) Heat it to a boil (about 3 minutes in the microwave).
Step 3) bring the cup of hot water with the boot in it to the tractor.
Step 4) Take the boot out and slide it over to top of the shifter, and down to the bottom.
Step 5) Roll the boot down over itself and down to the top of the transmission.
You will find that the hot boot is like a wet noodle, you can easily pull it down over the flange just by tugging on it with your fingers.
